Team Leader (Customs Brokerage) at Customs Support Group

To lead a Team in order to provide operational requirements and service levels which have been agreed with our clients in a timely and efficient manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To lead the team by example and ensure all Company policies and processes are being adhered to

  • Responsible for issuing and dividing the daily tasks to the team when applicable

  • Mentoring the team

  • Assist with monthly reporting to management

  • To assist with queries & issues to help the team meet their targets if needed

  • Holiday and absence authorisation and monitoring & carrying out return to work interviews, updating documentation and uploading to YouManage

  • Carrying out effective 1-2-1 meetings and appraisals with the team

  • Prepare & check documentation according to Customs regulations, laws, and/or procedures

  • Stay abreast of changes in import/export rules

  • Request or compile necessary documentation, such as commercial invoices, Packing Lists, Certs. Of Origin etc.

  • Advise customers & the team of any Customs-related matters that might be applicable to them

  • Confer with officials in various agencies to facilitate clearance of goods through Customs

  • Maintain relationships with shipping lines and freight forwarders to expedite clearing of cargo

  • Oversee the day to day running of operations for our customers

  • Be a point of contact / escalation for the OOH support team (on a rota with other Team leaders) to assist the 24/7 shift with any issues and escalate where necessary

  • Manage and onboard new customers/work into our current workflow as not to disrupt other customer’s service

  • Effectively manage own time, workload and resources

  • Ensure that all work is accurate, and attention has been given to the finer details

  • Apply company policies, standards and guidance and ensure colleagues understand how the guidelines will affect their work

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • The work is mainly office based

  • The dress code is smart / casual whilst in the office

Job requirements

  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy and the ability to present to colleagues

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the below sectors:

    • Import and/or export Customs brokerage

    • Customs compliance

    • General freight forwarding Role

    • Use & understanding of port linked inventory systems + GVMS

  • A basic understanding of the Microsoft Office suite

  • An awareness of confidentiality of data

  • Ability to be flexible and contribute to other areas of the business where require

  • Strong Customs knowledge

  • Understanding of CDS.

  • Team player – able to organise self & others

  • Good communicator

  • Proactive and confident

  • Accurate and considered work – compliance is key

  • Creative thinker and problem solver

  • Share knowledge with the team

  • Show initiative
